Introduction to Therapy

Throughout our lives, all of our experiences become embedded and encoded into us at a deep level. These neural pathways are formed over time, and we carry them with us as we change and grow.

Sometimes we realize these patterns aren’t helpful to us. Maybe they never served us; maybe they once did and no longer do in the same way as before.

When we reach this pivotal moment, the question is: How do we change these patterns?

First we must become aware of them. From here, we use the safe container of the therapeutic relationship to experience something brand new.

Therapy is not something we do, it is something we ARE when we share this space together. How we interact with each other is the healing balm that creates real shifts in our learned behaviors.

Everything we explore together in therapy creates a solid foundation to support your continued practice at home as we do this deep integration work.

At times the therapeutic process can feel uncomfortable because your brain is doing something that it’s never done before. This is the process of reprogramming the brain to change what is no longer working so you can thrive.

You don’t have to walk this path alone. Together we can shift what’s no longer serving you and create something brand new.

My Approach

My therapeutic process is three-fold: I work with you to engage the heart, mind, and soul.

  • Heart

In order to do this deep work, we first create a sense of safety through mindfulness, body awareness, and presence in the body.

This heart-to-heart connection is built through the relationship between client and therapist.

How does the heart engage? We explore this through storytelling and mythology, reflection and introspection, art and collage.
  • Mind

At the level of the mind, we engage the brain to work with us as we journey through this experience.

We build our vocabulary to describe what we’re moving through; we divide our emotions from our behaviors to see them from a brand new lens and approach them from a different perspective than before.

We learn more about any diagnosis, what we understand and what we don’t, and the research that’s available — not to dictate what you feel, but to deeply explore your options and the nuance of your individual experience.
  • Soul

Being in touch with the heart and mind allows us to access something deeper and more profound. Our core self, life force energy, the wise inner voice that helps steer our course when we know how to listen to it.

When we are safe and present with ourselves, we are able to tune into our true inner essence and listen to the wisdom that rests at the seat of our soul.

Through this process, we begin to connect our true inner self with what is reflected outside of us. When both are in alignment, we are free to move forward and do the work we need to do to connect with our fullest selves.
  • Integration

As we merge heart, mind, and soul into one unified experience, we open ourselves to the deep gifts held within and allow them to guide us.

By acknowledging these unique pieces of self and recognizing the roles they each play, we move further into the integrated embodiment of who we are as we navigate our challenges from a place of clarity and wholeness within.
